No Golf is faster than the R32. And yet it stops as well as it goes - with a powerful braking system designed to match its performance.

Overview

Indulge in the burst of power that comes from driving the R32 without compromising on your safety. To complement the car's prodigious performance, we've improved the R32's brakes over other Golfs'. What we've added; Larger discs at the front and rear to enhance grip. Vents to reduce heat build up and improve efficiency. Bigger brake servo to boost capacity. Distinctive blue callipers. Sophisticated electronic braking aids, including ABS and ESP.

Technical

The recipe for a successful performance car includes a potent engine, a sure-footed chassis and - perhaps the most important ingredient - powerful brakes. The Golf R32 has all 3 in abundance. What we've done R32's stopping power is provided by a braking system similar to the GTI's. But we've adapted it to cope with the extra performance of this, the ultimate Golf. Like the GTI, the R32 has disc brakes at the front and rear, except that they're bigger - we've increased their diameters by 33mm at the front, and 24mm at the rear. This means there's a greater surface area for the pads to grip. The discs are ventilated too, to help prevent a build up of excess heat under repeated heavy braking - the cause of 'brake fade' - while a bigger brake servo increases the capacity of the system. Finally, to emphasise the special nature of the R32's brakes, the callipers are painted blue . What it means on the road The result is a braking system that gives you absolute confidence to enjoy the R32's outstanding performance to the full.
