With one switch of a button, the off-road mode* on the Tiguan activates an integrated group of assistance systems that substantially enhance control during offroad driving. Using a combination of advanced off-road technologies such as downhill driving assistant, parking brake auto-release and gear pre-selection, the off road mode for rugged ground demonstrates the Tiguans outstanding qualities as a vehicle for asphalt and terrain. *Off-road comes as standard on the Tiguan Escape and optional on S, SE and Sport models. How it does it? Using an integrated group of assistance systems, the off road mode on the Tiguan provides safer control on tough terrain. What's involved; Downhill driving assistant: provides easier control for driving down steerp gradients; limits speed on gradients by actively braking all four wheels using the ESP hydraulics. Adjustment of accelerator pedal characteristics: finer modulation of engine torque using smaller accelerator pedal angles in low gears. EDL adjustment: electronic differential locks are activated at lower slip values than in normal operation. ABS adjustment: improved braking effect on loose ground. Parking brake auto-release function: assistance with hill starts to reduce clutch wear. Gear preselection: optimum engine braking effect (only in conjucntion with an automatic gearbox). Also to help stay on course offroad, a compass is fitted, which indicates the vehicles heading on the multi-function display.
