Battery
Your car battery is a powerful rechargeable device that stores electric energy through chemical reactions. Its function is to provide a surge of current to turn the engine over during starting. Once the engine starts, the engine-driven alternator maintains battery charge, powering the lights and other electrical systems in the car from electric windows to powered sunroofs. Car batteries provide a nominal 12-volt potential difference by connecting six galvanic cells in series.
