Pedestrian Protection
We build our cars so other road users and pedestrians are protected as far as possible. Measures for the protection of pedestrians include special deformation elements in the front bumper, a maximum possible distance between bonnet and engine, and deformable wings, some made of plastic, such as on the Phaeton. There must also be no sharp corners or edges and no protruding parts such as badges or trim components. The aim is to minimise the risk of injury by designing the 'contact zones' to give way as much as possible. Euro NCAP (The European New Car Assessment Programme) carries out pedestrian protection tests, replicating accidents involving child and adult pedestrians, as part of its independent assessment of the safety performance of new cars.
