By the late 1990's, Volkswagen UK's warehouses had reached capacity and many other warehouses were being rented to cope with all the parts. TNT was given the contract to build and operate a new warehouse at Dordon, near Tamworth. TNT invested £21 million in the design and build of the parts warehouse. Operations at the 62,000 sq metre warehouse built up gradually during the first quarter of 2002 with TNT managing Volkswagen Group UK's complete logistics supply chain providing services including: forecasting demand, ordering parts and managing stock, parts warehousing, daily deliveries to 875 dealers and a call centre providing information and advice to the dealer network. 87% of the parts supplied to the warehouse are delivered from Volkswagen Transport in Germany by rail directly into the warehouse which has an internal rail siding within it. The remainder are delivered by road trailer from the Czech republic, SEAT in Spain and UK suppliers.
