The Phaeton was re-profiled in 2010 with a similar body style to the Passat and incorporating many other style and technical changes. Google maps were made available for the first time in a Volkswagen and 18-way adjustable front seats, together with 4 or 5 seat optional layouts were amongst the many changes.

The Mk V Polo GTI promises to be the fastest, most focussed and cleanest performance Polo yet produced. At its heart is a 1.4-litre TSI engine that uses a supercharger from idle through to 3,000rpm at which point the turbocharger cuts in to provide boost. The result is an output of 180 PS at 6,200rpm and 184lbs ft of torque from 2,000rpm which, when aligned with a 1,184kg kerb weight, allows the Polo GTI to accelerate from rest to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 142 mph.

The Seventh generation Passat is simply an extensive facelift of the Mk VI where every body panel, except for the roof is new. There are prominent changes to the grille and lights and the car is marginally longer. The advanced range of efficient power units includes the BlueMotion package and the car can be specified with either a manual or DSG gearbox. New and advanced safety and comfort technologies have also been incorporated.

The new Sharan is the most advanced people carrier ever produced by Volkswagen, it is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, but 30kg lighter. It features a new, easy-fold seating concept, side sliding doors, a range of direct injection and highly economical petrol and diesel engines as well as a high specification. All Sharans, except the 200 PS variant, are designated BlueMotion technology models and feature stop/start and battery regeneration systems as standard.

In 2010, Volkswagen wins the 2010 Dakar Rally held in Argentina and Chile. Race Touareg 2 defends 2009 victory with first three places. Volkswagen win their second Dakar in succession in the cars class, with Carlos Sainz following in the footsteps of team-mate Giniel de Villiers, who won the event in 2009. Sainz finishes two minutes clear of another Volkswagen, piloted by Nasser Al-Attiyah, with a third Volkswagen of Mark Miller completing the podium, half an hour behind Al-Attiyah.

The all-new Touareg is over 200kg lighter and 20 percent more efficient than its predecessor. It has clean, new styling, drawing inspiration from the new Golf and Polo models and, although slightly larger than previously, it is lower and appears sleeker. New, refined and more efficient engines, with the diesels having the benefit of BlueMotion Technology, are specified, and for the first time, a hybrid variant is available. A first in headlight technology has been introduced called High Beam Assist which senses oncoming traffic and automatically dips.

The all-new Touareg is unveiled. It is over 200kg lighter than the current model and 20% more efficient, powered by a range of highly efficient yet powerful diesel V6 and V8 engines as well as the option of a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain in hybrid form. The Touareg is able to out-accelerate many hot hatches while returning 34mpg, it maintains all the same virtues of space, comfort, refinement and off-road and towing ability that have led the original Touareg to build up a loyal following since its launch.

The Polo GTI is fitted with the XDS differential, an electronic cross-axle traction control system designed for improved traction and handling. In moments of fast cornering XDS gives out exactly the right amount of power, providing pressure on the inside wheel to prevent wheel spinning. The result is better traction and a reduction of any tendency to under steer.
