For more than 30 years, the ‘GTI Meeting at Wörthersee’ has been a holiday in the calendar of fans of sporty Volkswagen vehicles. An event that will also this year see fans from right across Europe coming to the largest GTI meeting in the world in Austria. At this show of the superlatives, besides the Golf GTI Cabriolet, Volkswagen and Volkswagen Motorsport will be presenting the Polo R-WRC, the Polo WRC Street special edition model plus two further Golf GTI concept cars.

The Volkswagen factory team successfully concluded its test outing in the Rally Sweden, round two of the FIA World Rally Championship 2012, and gained valuable experience for future rallies with the Polo R WRC. Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia (F/F) took class victory with their Škoda Fabia; their team mates Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Fløene (N/N) clinched third place.

This year, the Volkswagen Group will be introducing the Modular Transverse Matrix – the German acronym is MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) – for the Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA and SEAT brands. The MQB strategy represents a turning point in the design and production of future automobiles with transverse-mounted engines. The Modular Transverse Matrix standardises many vehicle component parameters – across brands and vehicle classes. At the same time, it offers access to new technologies.

Volkswagen celebrated with the Champion of Champions as Sébastien Ogier, Volkswagen factory driver since 23 November for the World Rally Championship (WRC), emerged victorious in his first outing in the Race of Champions. In the finale, the 27-year old Frenchman clearly beat eight-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen who had previously beaten Michael Schumacher in the semi-final.

Wolfsburg (03 November 2011). Volkswagen has successfully started the tests with the new Polo R WRC. Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Technology, and the two-time World Rally Champion and Dakar winner Carlos Sainz (Spain) completed the first test kilometres in the vineyards of Veldenz near Trier, the location that normally plays host to the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, without any problems today.

Volkswagen’s Polo range now offers customers even greater value for money, thanks to the addition of a new Match model which replaces the existing SE and Moda trim levels and provides £650 worth of equipment – but with a pricetag that means it costs £215 less than those models. Prices for the Polo Match start at £11,300 (RRP ‘on the road’) for the 1.2-litre 60 PS manual version.
