The technology of the future up close: electric cars put to the test.

What are the actual advantages of electric mobility and what exactly is it that fascinates people about this innovative way of driving?
We were curious to find some answers, so we asked people from a wide variety of backgrounds whether they would like to test drive a hybrid or e-model for a while. We accompanied them for the ride and discovered a lot about the day-to-day practicality of electric cars.

The e-up! – Big in space and performance.

Claire Ewert was impressed with her e-up! from the outset. The 32 year old commercial clerk got a pleasant surprise from this punchy little car’s lively performance. Claire uses the e-up! for everything from personal shopping to delivering metal packaging to her customers. That´s why it’s especially important that her e-up! combines quick acceleration with plenty of space in the boot. For her, the e-up! is the perfect car, and her friends agree: “I constantly have to go and visit people and I always show them the car. Everyone wants to get in right away and drive it. The feeling you get driving it is great, you immediately feel at home in the e-up!”

Everything in range.

Michel Kreppold uses the e-Golf for his commute, which takes him 120km to work and back each day. The 39-year-old’s e-Golf comfortably gets him to the office with its impressive range, but can also be easily charged during his journeys. Switching to an electric vehicle has proved to be a sound investment for Michel’s family given that they travel so much both for work and in their free time. Not only has the car saved Michel money, but he has also found that the e-Golf offers the same high level of comfort as the Golf: “The e-Golf is a fantastic car and perfect for a small family. It’s important to me to embrace electric mobility because it is the future.”

Recharge at home and enjoy the independence.

The Kavemann family has fully embraced the electric car. They produce their own electricity by using a photovoltaic system. Fifty-year-old Ingo Kavemann had one priority above all when purchasing the innovative piece of tech: to be able to generate his own electricity and use it to recharge his e-up!. This provides him and his family with a sense of independence that they now couldn’t go without. At the same time, they help to promote the use of alternative energies in the home.

From the quiet and relaxed driving experience to environmental friendliness – the entire family has fallen in love with their comfortable, eco-friendly car. And, most importantly of all, the e-up! has the seal approval from their son Luca, who thinks the car is “super cool”.

A company car that helps the environment

Does a hybrid or electric serve as a good company car? Dr. Alfons Roerkohl thinks so. His colleagues already enthusiastically drive the Passat GTE. In addition to the peace and quiet, they particularly value the spaciousness of the hybrid vehicle. However, Dr. Roerkohl’s main reason for wanting to purchase more hybrid company cars is a desire to reduce pollution, which is made possible with the choice of drive systems they offer: “With a hybrid vehicle you can decide whether to drive with the electric or the petrol engine.”

The e-Golf with its own charging station. Live on the road.

Alexander Weber, who works as a breakdown assistant, and his wife drive an e-Golf. The thing they enjoy most about their electric car is that they can easily charge it overnight at home and start the next day with no fuss. As Alexander explains, there is one other major factor: “The last thing I expected was that the electricity costs would be so low.”

Alexander Weber's main arguments for his e-Golf? Comfortable charging at home and reduced costs.

The Weber family are also amazed by the e-Golf’s quiet ride, they love being able to glide almost silently along the road. On the whole, the Webers have fallen head over heels with their car. In the e-Golf, they have found a family vehicle that gives them a fantastic drive and reassuring security.
