I'm going to be driving abroad - do you have any tips?

Inform your insurance company that you will be travelling abroad. It is also a good idea to check what breakdown cover you have in place and ensure that you have the company's contact details with you. For more information on European Roadside Assistance, please visit our Roadside Assistance FAQs

Here is a handy check list of items to remember:

- Credit/Debit card

- Contact your motor insurer before taking your vehicle outside of the UK to find out if you need a Green Card or to upgrade to fully comprehensive insurance

- Carry your vehicle registration document and your driving licence - including your paper counterpart if it is a photocard licence

- Spare set of keys

- Passport

- Statement of insurance or booking reference

- International driving permit (where necessary)

Set of spare light bulbs and the warning triangle

High visibility jackets for all occupants

First aid kit

- Check insurance policy details are correct

- Check that your tyres and fluids levels are correct

- Check the locations of the nearest Volkswagen Retailers in the area/s you'll be visiting
