Volkswagen makes automobile history with the introduction of the Lupo 3L TDI. The 2-door, 3.53 metre small car which can be driven over 1,000 kilometres with a full 34-litre tank is the world's first standard production 3-litre vehicle. Its extremely efficient fuel consumption is the result of a highly developed 3-cylinder TDI engine and lightweight construction. The doors, fenders and hood are made out of aluminium, the rear hatch out of magnesium; similar lightweight building materials are used for the axles and the suspension. As a result, the aerodynamically optimised Lupo 3L TDI weighs only 830 kilograms. The energy saving 3-litre Lupo sets new ecological standards.
