The winter mode system on your Touran when selected reduces the chance of wheels skidding on icy surfaces.
Driving in freezing winter conditions can be tricky. To protect you and your passengers we've equipped your Touran with a winter driving mode. If you're worried about treacherous conditions just press the 'W' button in front of the 6-speed gearbox. This automatically reduces power and acceleration, allowing you safe, controlled driving.
With the introduction of high performance engines, with high torque at low rpms, this could mean an increased likelihood of wheel spin under slippery conditions. This has prompted the development of the winter mode system. This system, when selected, will under low and medium acceleration reduce torque to the driving wheels. The engine management system assesses the motion of the wheels and reduces the torque when necessary. The driver receives feedback through the steering wheel. Under hard acceleration i.e. overtaking, the vehicle is assisted by the reactive ESP and ASR (traction control) systems. These constantly monitor the vehicle, cutting in where necessary.
