Volkswagen inaugurates solar park in the usa
Chattanooga, Tennessee/USA, 24 January 2013: The Volkswagen brand has inaugurated its largest solar facility in the world at its US plant in Chattanooga. The Volkswagen Chattanooga Solar Park has a peak output of 9.5 megawatts and is the largest solar facility operated by an automaker in the USA. The environmentally compatible power is to be used for Passat production.

Satellite Navigation and more puts new Passat Highline on the map
Volkswagen is boosting the popular Passat and Passat Estate ranges with the addition of a new model, the Highline, which replaces the best-selling SE model. Over the already generous equipment list of the Passat SE, the Highline adds an RNS 315 touchscreen satellite navigation unit, front and rear parking sensors, 2Zone climate control and stylish 17-inch ‘Sao Paolo’ alloy wheels. Together, they add £1,680-worth of value, yet the Passat Highline commands a premium of just £500 over the SE, with prices starting at £20,970 (RRP OTR) for the 1.4-litre TSI 122 PS.

The beginning of a new era: Volkswagen introduces the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB)
This year, the Volkswagen Group will be introducing the Modular Transverse Matrix – the German acronym is MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) – for the Volkswagen, Audi, ŠKODA and SEAT brands. The MQB strategy represents a turning point in the design and production of future automobiles with transverse-mounted engines. The Modular Transverse Matrix standardises many vehicle component parameters – across brands and vehicle classes. At the same time, it offers access to new technologies.

New Passat BlueMotion sets the economy standard
A standard production Passat BlueMotion entered the record books in October 2010 after covering a distance of 1,527.63 miles on a single tank of fuel, achieving an average 89.83 mpg. Not wanting to rest on the laurels of the previous generation, Volkswagen has now added a BlueMotion model to the seventh-generation Passat range which is even more efficient. Prices start at £19,875 for the saloon and rise to £21,180 for the Estate.
