Wolfsburg, 14 July 2015 – Volkswagen AG aspires to holding the leading position in the field of automated parking. A look into the near future of automated parking is given by 'V-Charge', an EU research project, in which six national and international partners are jointly developing new technologies. Its focus is on automating the search for a parking space and on the charging of electric vehicles.

A new Golf for the racetrack: Volkswagen Motorsport is developing its first racing car based on the seventh-generation Golf. The production-based, 330 PS concept car is assembled in accordance with TCR regulations and is intended to help Volkswagen evaluate a potential customer racing programme from the 2016 season onwards. In order to accelerate the development of the car, the new Golf will be tested under competitive conditions between now and the end of the season: as cooperation partner, the Liqui Moly Team Engstler will run two cars at the eighth round of the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

UK order books are now open for a raft of new ultra-frugal petrol models in the Golf hatchback, Estate and SV. Powered by a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre 115 PS turbocharged petrol engine, the new Golf TSI BlueMotion returns 65.7 mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km. Also available for the first time with a BlueMotion engine is the option of a DSG automatic gearbox.

Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed their fourth win of the season at the Rally Italy to extend their lead in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The French duo won on Sardinia with a lead of over three minutes over Hyundai’s Hayden Paddon/John Kennard (NZ/NZ), and also emerged victorious on the closing Power Stage. Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) suffered a number of set-backs over the course of the rally, but fought back to finish sixth overall and second on the Power Stage. Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene (N/N), who had fallen well behind following early crashes, also managed to claim one point towards the world championship, finishing third on the Power Stage. Ogier now leads the World Championship with 133 points, followed by Mads Østberg (N/67) in his Citroën and Andreas Mikkelsen (64). The next round of the World Rally Championship will take place in Poland from 2 to 5 July.

Volkswagen is preparing to delight automotive fans at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed on 26-28 June by showcasing four new cars, all of which are making their UK debuts. These are the Sport Coupé GTE Concept, the XL Sport and the Golf R400, as well as the 2015 Polo R WRC rally car.

As good as it gets: Volkswagen got a triumphant one-two-three win in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), seeing them celebrate the most successful rally in the history of the Polo R WRC. In Portugal, at the fifth event of the season, Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) won ahead of their team-mates Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene (N/N), and with the triple success on the power stage, also secured the maximum number of points in all three WRC standings for the works team from Wolfsburg.

The Volkswagen Golf and Passat models have been praised by vehicle safety experts at the Thatcham Research Centre, who have seen a 45 per cent drop in third party personal injury insurance claims thanks to the fitment of auto-emergency braking systems.
