Sound Proofing

We are continually developing new ways to minimise driving noise and make our cars more comfortable to travel in. Our new generation turbodiesel engines with common rail injection and TSI petrol engines, for example, are exceptionally quiet. Other soundproofing solutions include sound-deadening film sandwiched in the windscreen glass, newly designed door and window seals and reshaped door mirrors to cut wind noise. Special modifications can help isolate engine and passenger compartments from one another acoustically, while quiet rolling tyres and new engine bearings reduce noise further. Damping technologies have been redesigned for bumpers, engine firewall, foot pedals, and centre tunnel, around the air conditioning and heating system and in the boot area, using new, lighter materials wherever possible. In addition, many secondary noises can now be eliminated or reduced in belt drives, the turbocharger and charge air distribution, as well as in the heating and cooling blower.
