Reimagining our iconic models for our electric era.

At Volkswagen, we’re shaping the future of mobility — not just through innovation in technology, but also in how we present our vehicles to the world. That’s why we’re introducing a new naming strategy that brings our most beloved model names into the electric age. Starting in 2026, the ID. family will welcome the ID. Polo, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our naming philosophy.

Familiar names, new energy

Our model names — like Polo, Golf and GTI — are more than just labels. They represent decades of trust, quality, and innovation. These names are deeply rooted in our customers’ lives and memories. By transferring them to our all-electric ID. family, we’re making electric mobility more relatable, more personal, and more accessible.

The ID. Polo, based on the concept vehicle ID. 2all, will be the first to carry this new naming approach. It will launch in the Polo’s 50th anniversary year, combining the legacy of a trusted name with the forwardthinking spirit of electric driving.

Our model names are firmly anchored in people’s minds. They stand for a strong brand and embody characteristics such as quality, timeless design and technologies for all. That’s why we’re moving our wellknown names into the future. The ID. Polo is just the beginning.

Combining Worlds for Greater Clarity

As we expand our electric portfolio, our combustion-engine models will continue to carry their existing names. This dual approach ensures clarity for our customers, helping them navigate our product range with ease — whether they’re choosing electric or conventional powertrains.

The ID. designation will continue to stand for cutting-edge technology and sustainable mobility. By pairing it with iconic names like Polo and GTI, we’re creating a bridge between tradition and innovation.

We are bringing one of our strongest brands, the GTI, into the electric world. Also launching in 2026, the ID. GTI Concept model will go into production as the ID. Polo GTI. It will offer outstanding dynamics and plenty of driving pleasure.

A New Era of Electric Mobility

The ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI made their global debut at IAA MOBILITY in Munich (8–14 September).

These new models mark the beginning of a new era for Volkswagen. With improved quality, intuitive controls, and a design philosophy shaped by customer feedback, we’re making electric driving more affordable and more desirable than ever before.

Since introducing the ID. family in 2018, we’ve built a strong foundation for our electric future. From the pioneering ID.3 to the spacious ID.7, our electric range continues to grow — and now, it’s evolving to reflect the names our customers know and love.
