Electric car charging guide

How do I charge my electric or plug-in hybrid car?

Charging your electric or plug‑in hybrid car is simple. You can use electric car charging points at home, at work, or at a public charger.

At home, most owners use a home wallbox, which is much faster and smarter than a standard three‑pin plug, often allowing you to schedule charging for cheaper off‑peak electricity. A household socket can be used for occasional, slower “top‑ups”.

Out and about, you just plug in with a compatible connector and start the session using contactless payment or an app. Many workplaces now offer similar chargers for staff. Your car can also recharge itself using regenerative braking which captures energy normally lost when you slow down and converts it back into electricity to top up the battery as you drive.
