The new Volkswagen ID. Cross
an all-electric compact SUV

This all-electric compact SUV combines a stylish and powerful design, with technologies from the luxury class and a well-thought-out overall concept in one vehicle. At an entry-level price of around €28,000 in Germany (UK pricing coming soon), the ID. Cross offers a level of quality, comfort and equipment that sets new standards in the small car and compact segment. This is reflected in the feel-good ambience in the interior, which was achieved with finely crafted materials, fabric-covered surfaces and high seating comfort.

Battery sizes and range

The ID. Cross comes with two different battery sizes, 37 kWh and 52 kWh, with a WLTP range of up to 265 miles depending on battery size and specifications.

Charging speeds at home and on the road

When it comes to home charging, both available ID. Cross battery sizes have a maximum AC charging capacity of 11 kW at your home wall box or a public charging station. The 37-kWh battery can charge at DC fast chargers with outputs of up to 90 kW, and it can go from 10% to 80% in 23 minutes. The larger 52-kWh battery can use DC chargers of up to 105 kW and can go from 10% to 80% in 24 minutes.

The ID. Cross is 4,153 mm long, 1,581 mm tall and 1,794 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,601 mm.

Boot space, the frunk and storage

There’s plenty of storage space in the ID. Cross with its boot capacity of 475 litres, plus the variable boot floor offers a hidden compartment underneath the boot with space for two crates of drinks. There’s also a handy little frunk underneath the bonnet with 25 litres of storage space, which is perfect for charging cables and little bits and bobs.

Towing a caravan, boat or trailer

Nothing can stand in the way of a caravan trip in the ID. Cross with a 52-kWh battery thanks to its towing capacity of up to 1,200 kg. Whether it’s a small caravan, a boat or motorbikes, the ID. Cross can handle it.

Vehicle-to-load: powering your kit from the car

With the new standard vehicle-to-load function, your ID. Cross can be used to charge or power other devices with its 3.6 kW output. That means you can easily recharge your e-bikes on a weekend trip by externally connecting to the SUV’s charging socket, with an optional Schuko plug adapter available from Volkswagen Accessories.

Thanks to the MEB+ platform, the ID. Cross has more space for passengers and luggage than the T‑Cross. The impressive 475 litre boot in the ID. Cross, means it has 20 more litres than the T‑Cross. The ID. Cross is also available with optional equipment that’s not available in the T‑Cross, or several competitors in its class. This includes features such as a high-end sound system from Harman Kardon, pneumatic massage function with three settings, electrically adjustable 12-way front seats with memory function, panoramic roof and electric sunblind.

Our Pure Positive design language focuses above all on visual stability while still maintaining a friendly appearance and striking details. Elements such as the elongated ‘flying roof’ and the strong C-pillar, as well as striking light signatures at the front and rear, characterise the unmistakable appearance of the ID. Cross. This striking light signature is amplified by the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps and 3D LED rear lights with LED crossbars and VW logos that are illuminated and included in the specification.

Screens and the retro display

The Digital Cockpit Pro, or digital instruments, inside the ID. Cross have a diagonal of 10.25 inches and is arranged on the same visual axis as the 12.9-inch infotainment display. Similar in size to a premium tablet, the infotainment touch display is in the centre of the dash panel, making it easy for the front passenger to reach. When the driver activates the retro display using the view button on the steering wheel, the digital cockpit changes the look of the instruments to resemble a Mk1 Golf. However, in the ID. Cross there is no display for the speed of the engine, instead the output or energy consumptions of the vehicle as a power meter is shown. Another modern function such as the Dynamic Road Sign Display has also been integrated into the retro 1980s-inspired layout.

Materials and comfort

The clear design continues in the interior, with standard-setting quality for comfort and equipment in the small car and compact segment. The interior of the ID.Cross features a fabric-covered dash panel and elegant tactile controls with metallic outer edges on the centre console. In response to customer demand, physical buttons have replaced touch controls, delivering a more intuitive and satisfying user experience.

During the development of the ID. Cross, particular attention was paid to ride comfort and driving stability. The suspension is specially tuned for electric front-wheel drive to ensure a combination of precise and safe handling as well as high comfort over long distances. To reduce noise and vibrations inside the vehicle, high-quality dampers, comfort-optimised suspension components and numerous other measures were taken to ensure a pleasantly quiet driving experience wherever you’re going. In addition, there is also a direct steering response and a finely tuned brake system that provides an impressively natural pedal feel.

Adaptive DCC suspension

The newly developed adaptive DCC suspension will be available as an option for the more powerful 155 kW variant. It has been specially adapted to the requirements of the ID. Cross and combines high precision with agility and suitability for everyday use. This system offers a particularly well-balanced driving experience by continuously adjusting the damping to the road surface and driving situation, from comfortable travel to a more dynamic driving style.

Connected Travel Assist with traffic light recognition

Thanks to MEB+ and the latest software, the ID. Cross comes with a range of cutting-edge assist systems as standard. The next generation of Travel Assist uses online data, which is why it’s been renamed Connected Travel Assist. For the first time this system can also respond to traffic lights, which means it can automatically brake the ID. Cross to a standstill when it detects a red traffic light, within the system limits. Assist systems such as this next generation of Travel Assist will be optionally available. Another new feature is One Pedal Driving, which rapidly decelerates the SUV through regulation of the accelerator pedal alone.

Park Assist Pro and 360-degree Area View

The ID. Cross has smart parking aids available that make manoeuvring easy. For example, the 360-degree Area View provides you with a comprehensive bird’s-eye view of the vehicle’s surroundings. While Park Assist Pro can handle parking manoeuvres automatically, you can even park the vehicle remotely via smartphone.

Life

The ID. Cross Life comes equipped with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control (ACC) and a rear-view camera, as well as a junction assistant for new owners.

Style

The ID. Cross Style is the elegant top-of-the-line model that comes as standard with features such as IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps with an illuminated LED light strip, 3D LED rear lights, illuminated VW logos at the front and rear, heated seats and steering wheel, personalised interior trim and the keyless start and locking system.

The ID. Cross will be available with optional equipment that you can’t get for the MQB-based T‑Cross or several of its competitors in this class. This includes the high-end sound system from Harman Kardon with 425 Watts of power, 10 loudspeakers, a centre speaker for clear voice transmission, and a subwoofer for ultra deep bass. A new feature that you won’t find anywhere else in this segment is the pneumatic massage function with three massage programmes in the electrically adjustable 12-way front seats, which also has a memory function for the driver seat. Sunlight or starlight floods into the interior through a 74 x 90 cm panoramic roof which extends well into the rear of the vehicle, and the interior can be darkened at will using the electric sunblind.
