VW Connect – Digital services for more convenience and oversight

With VW Connect or previously We Connect⁠, you can take advantage of many different services that make your everyday life easier through the Volkswagen app, the myVolkswagen customer portal or straight from your vehicle.

The availability of the services is country-specific and may vary according to model, model year and equipment.

Activate standard services: What the free basic functions have to offer

Basic functions such as the Emergency Call Service, the Wi-Fi hotspot and the legally required eCall Emergency System are available to you without the conclusion of a separate VW Connect contract. If you wish to transfer selected personalised functions from one vehicle to another, you need a Discover Media or Discover Pro. You also need a Volkswagen ID user account and need to log into VW Connect with your username and password.

VW Connect - Your introduction to online services

Your gateway to Volkswagen’s digital services and the direct connection to your vehicle: with VW Connect, your Volkswagen is ready for connectivity. Following one-off activation, you can use lots of helpful and innovative online services free of charge.

Usage of these free services requires you to sign up online to a separate VW Connect contract with Volkswagen AG.

The entire world of digital services from Volkswagen brings connectivity to a new level: with your Volkswagen ID and VW Connect Plus activation, you have access to extra smart functions: from smart navigation with information almost in real time and Internet radio to using your smartphone as a remote control. For even more convenience and entertainment.

When you buy a new vehicle, you have the opportunity to use digital services from VW Connect / VW Connect Plus or We Connect / We Connect Plus for the free initial contract period. To use the VW Connect / VW Connect Plus or We Connect / We Connect Plus services, you must have a Volkswagen ID user account and need to log in with your username and password. Once the Volkswagen ID user account has been successfully set up and linked to your vehicle, you can use the vehicle-, country-, software- and equipment-specific digital services for an initial contract period free of charge. For this purpose, a separate VW Connect / VW Connect Plus or We Connect / We Connect Plus contract must be concluded with Volkswagen AG online at www.myvolkswagen.net or via the “Volkswagen” app (available in the App Store and Google Play Store). The actual length of the free contract period depends on when you activate the digital services. From the ninetieth day after initial delivery at the latest, the free initial contract period will begin to reduce automatically. You can view the exact contract period for your specific vehicle on myVolkswagen www.myvolkswagen.net. For customers with VW Connect and VW Connect Plus: The use of mobile online services is enabled by means of an integrated Internet connection. For the use of the Wi-Fi hotspot, data plans can be purchased from the external mobile communications partner Cubic Telecom and used in the network coverage area within many European countries. The data in these plans can be used by all users and vehicle occupants. You can find information on conditions, prices and supported countries at vw.cubictelecom.com. Alternatively, you can use this service with a mobile device (e.g. smartphone) with the ability to function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. In this case, the corresponding function of the service is only available subject to an existing or separate mobile phone contract between you and your mobile network operator and only within the coverage area of the respective mobile network. Additional fees (for example, roaming charges) may arise when exchanging data on the Internet, depending on your particular mobile phone rate and especially when using the service abroad. For customers with We Connect and We Connect Plus: The use of mobile online services is enabled by means of an integrated Internet connection. For the use of the streaming services, individual in-car apps and the Wi-Fi hotspot, data plans can be purchased from Cubic Telecom, our mobile communications partner, and used in the network coverage area within many European countries. The data in these plans can be used by all users and vehicle occupants. You can find information on conditions, prices and supported countries at vw.cubictelecom.com. Alternatively, you can use these services with a mobile device (e.g. smartphone) with the ability to function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. In this case, the corresponding services are only available subject to an existing or separate mobile phone contract between you and your mobile network operator and only within the coverage area of the respective mobile network. Additional fees (for example, roaming charges) may arise when exchanging data on the Internet, depending on your particular mobile phone rate and especially when using the service abroad. A smartphone with a suitable iOS or Android operating system and SIM card with data option with an existing mobile data contract or one to be agreed separately between you and your mobile data provider is required to use the free app “Volkswagen”.  The services included in the We Connect and We Connect Plus or VW Connect and VW Connect Plus packages may vary by country. Availability also depends on vehicle model, equipment and software version installed. This also applies to third-party services. The services are available for the agreed contract period and may be subject to substantive changes or ceased during the contract period. More information is available at connect.volkswagen.com and your Volkswagen dealership. For information on mobile data charges, please consult your mobile data provider.

VW Connect refers to the current range of digital services for new vehicles from Volkswagen and successively replaces the previous generation of mobile online services, We Connect. The term “VW Connect” will be used subsequently to represent both systems. You can use the compatibility check to check which service packages your Volkswagen is compatible with: https://compatibility.volkswagen.com/gb/en/index.html. The AirConsole provider and contractual partner is N-Dream AG. The use of AirConsole is in accordance with the legal provisions of N-Dream AG. Volkswagen bears no responsibility for the content of AirConsole and exclusively technically enables access to AirConsole. Data protection information can be found in the VW Connect Privacy Policy.

To take advantage of the VW Connect Plus/We Connect Plus trial period, you need a Volkswagen ID user account, a valid VW Connect/We Connect contract and verification as primary user, which means connecting your user account with the vehicle. The availability of the trial period depends on your vehicle's model year and production date. It's easy to check whether this is available for your vehicle in the Volkswagen Connect shop at connect-shop.volkswagen.com or the In-Car Shop in your Volkswagen's infotainment system. If you have already concluded a VW Connect (Plus)/We Connect (Plus) contract for your vehicle, the trial period cannot be activated. If you have taken over an active remaining contract period for your vehicle, as the new primary user, you can use this until the end of the contract period without incurring any costs. If there is no longer an active license from the previous primary user or the remaining contract period is less than three months, you have the option to activate and use the free three-month trial period instead. If the trial period is available for you and your vehicle, you can activate this on a one-time basis free of charge in the Volkswagen Connect shop. Following activation, you can try out the mobile online services from Volkswagen AG free of charge for three months. Please note that the trial period does not extend automatically. You have the option to purchase a suitable connectivity service via the web shop connect-shop.volkswagen.com or in the In-Car Shop in your Volkswagen’s infotainment system. For more information on the availability of the trial period, you can consult Volkswagen customer support free of charge at any time.

To obtain Upgrades, you need a Volkswagen ID user account, a valid VW Connect / We Connect contract and your primary user verification, i.e. the link between your user account and the specific vehicle. Your vehicle also needs to have the technical function, hardware and software required for the relevant Upgrade. The availability of Upgrades may also depend on the model year and production date. The upgrades available for the specific vehicle can be viewed by the primary user depending on the model in the infotainment system In-Car Shop or the Volkswagen Connect Shop at https://connect-shop.volkswagen.com. Paid-for products can be purchased in the In-Car Shop and/or the Volkswagen Connect shop with the payment methods that are currently available and can be viewed there. The availability of Upgrades functions may vary between the web shop and In-Car Shop. Your Volkswagen dealership is also happy to advise on questions regarding Upgrades and their availability. Purchased and activated Upgrades remain with the vehicle for the duration of the activation period, can be used by all drivers and cannot be transferred to other vehicles.
