35% off your plug-in vehicle
The government is so keen for widespread adoption of plug-in vehicles that they now offer 35% off the purchase price of the e-up! or the e-Golf upto a maximum of £3,500. Thats a huge difference when considering which car to buy!
The best thing is that you don’t have to do a thing to receive the savings. Your Volkswagen retailer will include the value of the grant in the vehicle’s price. Saving money has never been easier.
No more congestion charge
This is an exciting benefit for all London drivers as the costly congestion charge that applies to the centre of the city will no longer apply to anyone who drives a vehicle that emits 75g/km or less of C0₂ – a limit that all electric Volkswagens meet:
- Golf GTE and GTE Advance: combined CO₂ emissions: 38 g/km
- Passat GTE and GTE Advance: combined CO₂ emissions: 40 g/km
- e-Golf: C0₂ emissions: 0 g/km
- e-up!: C0₂ emissions: 0 g/km
Some London boroughs even offer reduced parking fees for electric vehicles, making it a win-win for Londoners who decide to drive electric – not only are these vehicles made for the city, but they’ll also save you money that can be spent elsewhere.
Savings on car tax
If your car is a zero-emission vehicle or was registered before 1 April 2017 and emits less than 100g CO₂/km, then you’re exempt from paying vehicle excise duty (VED). Often known as car tax, it’s a fee that all other car drivers have to pay to drive and park on UK roads. Just another benefit of being a zero-emissions driver.
Install a charging station for less
Once you’ve made the switch to electric, you’re going to want to install an at-home charging station so you’re never far from a power boost for your new car. And now the government has introduced a grant that can offset the cost of installation. The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme gives the registered keeper of the car, the lessee or the primary user up to 75% off (capped at £500, inc. VAT) the total costs of installing the charge point, along with any other associated installation costs.

Charge at work for less
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) makes it easier and cheaper for businesses, charities and public-sector organisations to install a charge-point in their carpark. The scheme provides financial support towards the up-front costs of purchase and installation, so you can power up at work and hopefully inspire your coworkers to switch to electric once they see how easy and cost-effective it can be.
